This year we celebrated Easter a little early at Anna House! We are so thankful to all our supporters and Community Partners. We would especially like to thank the National Charity League-Garden City Chapter for putting together these amazing Easter baskets for each of our children and teachers!
Brotherhood Awards
We are proud to announce that one of our students, Chelsea, in our after-school tutoring program recently received the Brotherhood Award! From amongst all her peers, Chelsea was chosen by both her principle and her teachers to receive this award. This award is presented to someone that not only strives to excel in school, but also shows the importance of being kind to others and helping out in the community. These are characteristics that BCCA finds truly important and inspiring and we are so proud when one of our students exhibits them so well.
Brownie Egg Hunt
This week we were fortunate to have some amazing visitors at Anna House. Local Brownie troop 1483 organized a surprise egg hunt for our school age students! After the exciting hunt, all the children participated in an arts and crafts project. It is so important to us that our children connect with members of the local community and understand the importance of giving back. Seeing these young girls come and do something so generous for us was truly inspiring!
Women's Literacy Program
BCCA is so proud of our Anna House mothers for completing the first Women's Literacy session! The mothers were able to expand their English vocabulary while also gaining confidence in communicating with others in their everyday life. When the mothers were asked what they enjoyed most about the class, here were a few of the responses:
"My children now enjoy reading with me and sharing stories about what they do in school."
"I enjoy learning English and spending more time reading with my children and with my teachers and my classmates."
"I used to be afraid to answer the telephone in English, but now I have more confidence to communicate with others and my children have noticed this new change in me."
We are so grateful to the New York Women's Foundation for helping make this amazing program possible!
Nassau County Legislature's Women's History Month Awards
BCCA is proud to announce that our Executive Director, Joanne K. Adams, was the Women: Trailblazers in the New Millennium honoree for District Fourteen of the Nassau County Legislature's 19th Annual Women's History Month Awards!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
BCCA would like to thank the Hagan-Kavanagh Irish School of Dance for joining us at Anna House today. Our students spent the morning creating their own St. Patrick's Day hats and then got to finish off their day with an amazing dance performance! Wishing you St. Patrick's Day luck on finding your own Pot of Gold from all of us at Anna House.
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
In honor of one of BCCA's favorite author's, Dr. Seuss, the children celebrated his birthday today by reading his books, sampling green eggs and ham, and creating their own Cat in the Hat top hats!
Happy Valentine's Day
Teaching our students to give back and show compassion to one another has always been important to all of us here at BCCA, so this Valentine's Day all our students sent handmade cards from the heart to the children of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island!
To continue the Valentine's Day celebrations the parents joined us at Anna House for a party and crafts with their children. They made collages and paintings and were able to document the festivities by taking pictures in the "selfie frame" the children made!
Women's Literacy Program
BCCA is proud to announce the start of our new Women's Literacy Program. The program meets every Tuesday at Anna House and is open to all the mothers of BCCA students wishing to improve their English speaking skills. We would like to thank the New York Women's Foundation for helping us make this amazing opportunity possible!
Hey Ronald!
BCCA was thrilled to have Ronald McDonald visit Anna House today for a fun and educational show for all of our students! We are proud to partner with The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

Crafts and Story time at Barnes & Noble!
Thank you to Barnes & Noble for hosting the Anna House K-Prep students today for crafts and story time! The kids started the morning off decorating Christmas ornaments, which will be presented to the Ronald Mcdonald House of Long Island. The highlight of the trip was story time with our Chairman, Michael Dubb and President, Libby Imperio. Before heading back to Anna House, BCCA provided each child with a new holiday book and a few other treats!
